Dr Darragh Curran will deliver our next talk on Wednesday 30th August 2023 @ 8pm at Benburb Priory

The O’Neill Country Historical Society’s next talk will be given by Dr Darragh Curran.

Darragh will look at the political contests and sectarian clashes in this post-famine decade. This leads into the period 1860-1894 detailed in Michael Mc Loughlin’s book ‘ A DIVIDED IF NOT A FOOLISH PEOPLE ?’ published by the O Neill Country Historical Society in 2019.

Dr Daragh Curran is a graduate of NUI University Maynooth. He is an independent historical researcher whose publications include:  

‘The Protestant Community in Ulster 1825-45’ 

‘The Rise and Fall of the Orange Order During the Famine Years:‘ From Reformation to Dolly’s Brae’

He acted as a historical researcher for Professor Roy Foster’s ‘ Vivid Faces’ publication and has published articles in:

‘ The Clogher Record’,

‘The Donegal Annual’, 

‘Breffne’, 

‘Dúiche Néill’, 

‘The Spark’ and the Belfast Telegraph.

As a lecturer and tutor at NUI Maynooth, Darragh has delivered modules on the Orange Order and the history of Northern Ireland. He is currently researching the plight of Donegal Protestants in the Free State 1922-49.
